Happy Soul Podcast Episode #7:
Activate Your Self-Healing Power – How to Use Positive Psychology Hacks for Perfect Health and Well-being
[00:00:01.410]
Welcome to the Happy Soul podcast. My name is Corina Holzapfel.
[00:00:05.880]
I’m a naturopath and an intuitive purpose coach for women desiring to live an authentic life, a life
filled with joy, happiness, purpose and meaning.
[00:00:16.960]
I believe that we’re all so much more powerful than we can imagine, but to live as our own authentic
self and to use our innate power, we need awareness. I will help you understand who you truly are,
why you think and feel and behave the way you do, and how to live your best life. We talk about
Naturopathy, Positive Psychology, Human Design, Spirituality, Parenting, Relationships, the Wisdom of
Animals and so much more. I can’t wait to share these inspirational talks and conversations with you.
Welcome to the show.
[00:01:01.300]
Hello, beautiful soul. I’m so glad that you have tuned in today with all the craziness going on in our
world, isn’t it time for you to take better care of yourself; to treat yourself in a way that helps your
immune system do its job in a perfect way; to implement strategies that help you create more
resistance towards disease; to become more resilient and to establish healthy boundaries? Because…
Let me be honest with you. How you will show up for yourself and your family from now on
determines the direction of your life.
[00:01:38.370]
And there are actually only two directions that people move towards. One is that they let themselves
be dragged down by all the negativity in their environment; by all the fearful messages that are being
broadcasted on the media. And the other way is to focus on what’s going good; concentrate on
positive news and amplifying these by talking about them with others, setting things in perspective
and staying mentally sane. And I know many of you will respond to this with: “Yes, but it’s easier said
than done”…or something like “it is not easy to focus on the positive all the time, especially when
people are getting sick or when your partner or your kids pull you down with their attitude”.
[00:02:26.090]
I totally get this. And I never said that it was easy. But the thing is that if you want to stay healthy and
sane, you need to decide how you want to live your life. You need to decide what you respond to and
which way you respond. You are responsible for your thoughts and your emotions, and that’s what
you can work on. See, most of my clients who come to my office for treatment, their number one
priority is to be healthy because they had to learn that without their health, they have nothing.
[00:03:00.920]
And I assume you agree. If you’re not healthy, you cannot do all the things you want to do in your life
anymore, at least some of them, and not in an enjoyable way. And that’s why you need to make your
health your highest priority, you need to support your body’s ability for self-healing because that is
what your body is capable of. So many people have forgotten about this. They are conditioned by
society to think that they need to see the doctor and get some kind of pill that will help them feel
better and fight their symptoms…when in reality their body is only waiting for you to finally cooperate,
to listen within and trust your intuition when it comes to making decisions in your life about your
health and your relationships, who to surround yourself with, what to eat, what to drink, which
supplements you may need, when to say no, and how to treat yourself.
[00:04:00.620]
You need to love yourself more than anything else to stay healthy. Do you know that? There are many
ways in which you can activate your self-healing powers, eating healthy is just one of them. But let me
tell you that eating greens all day and avoiding sugar and alcohol and so on doesn’t make you healthy
if your inner garden is full of dirty old garbage. If you tell yourself that you’re not good enough; if you
care more for others than for yourself, because that’s what you’ve learned to do.
[00:04:31.860]
If you blame yourself for being not smart enough, not pretty enough, not skinny enough, not caring
enough, not lovable, not capable and so on. And we all do this. And I would even go as far as to say
that we do it every single day. It’s a program that’s been running in the subconscious mind for
decades, and I bet you’re so familiar with it that you don’t even see it for what it is – a self-destroying
habit that weakens your immune system and makes you feel crappy. No matter if you’re suffering
from an illness that you like to finally heal from, or if you listen to this in the hopes of staying healthy
and not catching a disease – the recipe is the same:
[00:05:15.510]
Care for your body, care for your mind and care for your soul.
[00:05:20.800]
And you may have heard this a thousand times, but are you really practicing it? It takes a lot of self-awareness and discipline to do this, and we all struggle with this. I know where my weakness lies. I
know that I eat a super healthy diet that consists mainly of organic fruits and veggies and some
organic meat.
[00:05:42.560]
I don’t eat sugar, I don’t drink coffee or alcohol. Never. And I avoid dairy and gluten. I really do. And I
have lived this way for more than two years now. My body feels amazing. And in addition to that, I
nurture my body with some of the highest quality food-based vitamins and minerals and some other
helpful supplements. Yet…. when I fall back into the habit of hating and blaming myself for not having
lived up to my high ideals, such as being the perfect mom, being the perfect wife, being the most
supporting and loveable friend, etc.
[00:06:17.960]
I can literally feel how my body gets sick. I breathe very shallowly, and all of the cells in my body seem
to contract and resist to work properly. I start getting symptoms such as dizziness and nausea and
headaches, and if it goes on for long enough, the body will eventually break down. Of course, there are
other factors involved as well, things like environmental toxins, things like pesticides and radiation.
Yet, scientists have proven that our mental and emotional health sets the foundation for staying
healthy.
[00:06:53.860]
If you need some more inspiration on how powerful your emotions truly are, I would suggest you
watch the movie “Heal”. It’s an amazing documentary about how people actually turn their health
around and heal from very serious diseases such as cancer by changing their thoughts and emotions.
All of this is supported by a fascinating field of research called Psycho-Neuro-Immunology. It’s about
how our behaviours and our brain influences our immune systems.
[00:07:24.880]
So let’s get practical for a little bit. What you really only need to do is to start changing your habits; to
implement one tiny habit every couple of weeks and take it one day at a time.
[00:07:38.370]
Researchers have shown that using Positive Psychology Hacks influences the biological and
behavioural processes implicated in good health. For example, inducing positive emotions speeds
cardiovascular recovery after stressful events; or training in mindfulness meditation boosts your
immune function and so on. So what are some of the Positive Psychology Hacks that you can
implement right now without having to put in too much effort? Remember: The easier it feels to you,
the greater the chance that you will actually stick with it. It takes about 21 to 30 days of repeating a
new behaviour before it slowly becomes a habit.
[00:08:21.750]
Here are some examples of what you could do. You could start a gratitude journal and write down
three things that you’re grateful for every evening before falling asleep.
[00:08:32.490]
That way, you will program your brain to dream of positive things instead of worrying all night or
having nightmares. Or, you could start a regular meditation practice, even if it’s only a five-minute
ritual a day, and if you’re new to meditation, you could begin with a guided meditation. Apps, such as
Inside Timer or Buddhify – they offer a large amount of all kinds of guided meditation and meditation
music.
[00:09:02.010]
And then you could offer yourself the gift of touch – I love this one so much. There is research about
how gentle self-touch by, for example, rubbing your arms while experiencing negative emotions helps
your nervous system calm down. And it can actually reprogram your brain and help you deal with
stress and trauma. If you want to read up on this, the method is called ” Self-Havening”. It is part of
Neurolinguistic Programming and it is very, very powerful. You can find it on the Internet and I can
also put a link in the show notes here.
[00:09:37.830]
So, these are only three ways in which you can support your self-healing potential and make sure that
you recover from health issues or stay healthy, especially in stressful times. If you need more ideas,
you can download my PDF on “50 Ways to Activate Your Self-Healing Power.” I will share the link for
the PDF in the show notes for this episode as well. All right, my loves. That’s it for today from me. I
hope today’s show has inspired you to take better care of yourself.
[00:10:08.760]
And if you are one of the beautiful women who is going through a really hard time at the moment, be it
physically or emotionally or maybe even both, I want you to know that everything is temporary. Just
like every good thing only lasts for so long, every adversity will eventually fade away and you will look
back at it and feel stronger, more resilient and ready to take on your life again. I promise. I’ve been
there and so have many other women as well.
[00:10:40.140]
If you need any help, either through a Naturopathy consultation or a Homoeopathy consultation. I’m
here to help offer both in person, as well as online consultations. Check out my website. I will put the
link in the show notes as well. And if you’re feeling lost and you don’t know who you are anymore and
what you’re here for on a soul level, a Human Design reading can be very, very helpful to heal yourself
and your life. And please, never forget that you are protected; you are guided; you are strong.
[00:11:17.220]
And once the tide turns, you will feel renewed, revitalized and more resilient than before. Take good
care of yourself, eat healthily, think good thoughts and make yourself a priority. It’s your birthright to
feel good.
[00:11:33.630]
I’m sending you much love.
